Can anyone tell me anything about Bill Badgett, who played the GREAT manic, frantic rockabilly steel on Marvin Rainwater's "Hot & Cold"?

Yeah, so much more melodic than that crap they play nowadays. And the lyrics really give you something to think about.

It's Roy? How cool! My band opened for Roy once, and he and I had a wonderful conversation! The first time I ever saw him was on Hootenanny or Shindig. He played the most twisted version of "Wildwood Flower." He was making the most hilarious mistakes and clams. I reminded him of that, and we had a great laugh. Don't care for his singing, but his guitar playing? Wonderful!!!!

Yes, Roy is wonderful. I saw him on a Hee Haw re-run the other night doing "Room Full of Roses" with Curly Chalker on steel and it just knocked me out! The Marvin Rainwater song was recorded in 1956, I believe, so Roy was just a young 'un.

I`ve been commissioned to do some steel overdubs in the style of the guy in Bill Haley`s Comets. I haven`t been able to find a good recorded example.
Can some give a good recording of his style? The steel player himself called his style "thunder and lightning".....

Jussi, those are great! Olli, I would suggest listening to recordings by Ray Condo and his Ricochets. The steel player, Jimmy Roy, is fierce. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2slsrl2mRM

Here's another of my favorites by Bill Haley & the Saddlemen. Olli, I like the description "thunder & lightning". I call it "zippy" stuff and I love it!

I played in a band with Buddy Badget who's father was named Bill. He did play steel with Roy Clark, Marvin Rainwater and Patsy Cline. I don't know if it is the same person or not but chances are it is. Bill died in 1972 or 1973 as I remember. He was cleaning windows at the Goddard Space Center and a scaffold above him slipped. He fell several 100 feet to his death. I purchased his Emmons from his widow and played it several decades. Buddy is still in the DC/Maryland area I believe.
