Anyone sell chips or a mod kit for a Peavey Rhythm Master?

I just picked up this amp and I've tried it a couple times on stage, but I keep going back to my Session 400. The multiple channel feature of the RM is really great for playing multiple instruments. The pedal steel tone with the RM is good, but just not quite as good as the Session 400.

Any suggestions?

I do not. Not sure if anyone else has anything. You can certainly change out the opamps (4558) to OPA2134PA.

I pulled the head out and inspected. I found twelve 4558 chips. They were labeled RC4558 P, Taiwan. They also said 319, but that was laid out vertically, and then the letter A horizontally from the 3. Are these inferior chips?

I replaced the chips in a Nashville 400 I used to own. I don't remember there being so many chips. Is the number increased due to the number of channels in the Rhythm Master?

I also found a 13th chip, unlike all the others, labeled 7048748, and RCA 231. Should this chip be upgraded as well, and if so, to what?

I'm not sure I want to do this, but it sure would be nice to only have to bring one amp to gigs.

7048748 is the compressor chip for the DDT compression.

The 4558 is a common chip used in many amps made by many manufacturers. Not inferior, just a different tone than the Burr Brown chips. It is a matter of preference. I suppose there are more chips in your amp because of extra channels. I do not have a schematic so I can't really say what you have in there for sure. If anything like the N-400 then one of the 4558 chips is used in conjuntion with the compressor chip and can be left alone. Without a schematic and board layout you can't really get a handle on what to change out.

Ken: Thanks for the responses. Would it hurt anything if I changed out all the 4558s and one of them was linked to the compressor chip?

I do not know the answer to that. I never tried it on any of the amps I worked on. You need to contact Peavey for a board layout/schematic to ID that chip.
