Hello everbody!
I bought a used Carter D10 8+7 the other day. Just loving the guitar. Went from a GFI Ultra Sd10.
The C6 copedent is almost exactly "Jernigan Setup" wich means that the Pedal 4 isn't the stock A's to B. Instead it's

A - Bb
F - Eb

Any suggestions of how to use this pedal? I have been playing a bit of C6 and the rest of the copedent makes perfect sense.

Quick-n-dirty:
Strings 9 through 4 give you an Eb9#11 chord, or an A7#5b5b9 (add string 3 and add #9 to that).
Basically it gives you a very altered VI chord at the 1- very very useful in jazz _________________ Christopher Woitach

when I played.....my C6th had only 2 pedals and I never
lacked anything to my desires?? I had pedals 5 & 6 next
to each other with 7 on RKL as I saw on Weldon's set-up
in the Pedal Steel book by Oak publishing. I'd like to try 7 at 6 position & put 6 on the RKL. I think it might have easier action.......mine was too stiff? I think Bob Michaels from NYC has his that way?? |

Christopher: Yeah, the 9#11 chord is useful but I can still get pretty much the exact voicing with pedal 6 and lowering the C to B

I have the Jernigan change on that pedal but have the rods slacked off to allow for the Franklin change on E9 which I also am finding I don't use much either . When I play C6 I keep my left foot hovering over 5 and 6 and my right foot over 7 and 8 pedals . I don't use the volume pedal at all . That 4th pedal ( and the volume pedal ) always interfered with my train of thought when I was improvising . When playing jazz your options are so great that you need to constrict them rather than add to them in my humble opinion .When you get to the stage that you run out of ideas then maybe . I never found much use for that 4th pedal when playing melody either . Doug has a good lick he uses on a turnaround as in 3- 6 2- 5 1 using that pedal starting in position 5 and moving down in semitones . I'd leave the change on but don't get hung up on it . You're right - the voicing can be made in other places, other ways.
However, what makes that change interesting is where it is in relation to the I chord.
For me, I like standard pedal 4, for exactly the same reason you stated - I can get almost the same voicing elsewhere _________________ Christopher Woitach
