Clearance was given by El' Presidente, Bill Cook, to have a steel guitar jam in Birmingham on Oct. 14, 2006. The jam will be held at "The Rocky Ridge Market & Deli"; actually, they have a small club adjacent to the Deli that's called "The Rock Bottom Bar". They have GREAT deli sandwiches, soups, etc., along with ALL beverages. We play here about once a month and the crowd usually doesn't show up until about 8:30 pm. The owner said we could start around 11 am and play til' 5-6 pm. We would be expected to patronize his business for hosting the event.

The address is: 2501 Rocky Ridge Road, Birmingham (Vestavia), AL 35243; phone # is: 205-822-2227. Mapquest should get you there just fine. If needed, we'll post directions later.

PLEASE let me know if you plan on showing up. I want to make sure everybody gets a chance to play. Also, if you want to play other instruments in the band, let me know what you play and if you want to sing. If you're not a steeler and want to play, or sing, let me know as well. I have some friends that will comprise the back up band. Just be sure to bring some charts if you have them. Alot of times, the band needs to know what they're playing. They are not a steel show band, but good musicians. Help them out and bring 4-5 sheets of charts for each song. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to catalogue these tunes for later gigs.

I know it's football season, but there are TV's, so we can keep up with the games.

We're looking at ways to raise money for the ASGA. What would ya'll think about a football board? Not really that much different from a raffle. We could sell squares as a donation to the ASGA for the Alabama & Auburn games. The procedes could be split between the winners each quarter & the ASGA. I'm not encouraging gambling, but trying to add some fun to the day and help the club out financially. We will also be looking for donations from the public and a cover from the players. I'll leave that up to Bill Cook and the Board of Directors.

We hope to have a really good turn out. Of course, that'll be up to all of you. Maybe we'll have a suprise for everybody. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Tim,
You have it planned out good. This will be our first appearence in the "Magic City". This is a good opportunity for all the pickers up in North Alabama to come pick and enjoy the fellowship. We are particulary interested in our Horizon Award candidates. I understand or to say it better I have been told that there are some good young pickers up in Yankee Country. Lets all get together and have a good day picking, making friends and occasionally checking the football scores. Thanks Tim for heading this Jam.

Tim, He gonna eat them bugs all the way from Alabama to Missouri, Just like in the Movie "THE COWBOY WAY". In fact our whole trip may be likening to that movie. We have better sense than to stay in the Waldorth Astoria Hotel though!! Once St Louis is over the excitement will start on this Jam. Come go to St. Louis with us!!

Bob & anybody else, it would be nice to know in general a head count of steel players and back up band candidates along with singers. This is for everybody to enjoy. Also, things will run smoother if players would bring 5-6 copies of song charts. That way we're not winging it too much. However, winging it can be fun. No matter what happens, we'll have a good time.

Kirk,

No better place than here to "begin" to play out among friends. I haven't been too embarrassed yet; I've been a beginner for a while!

Jeremy,

I'd suggest bringin' on! I've never known a band that would say no to a challenge.
