Happened to catch a segment of the 'Jimmy Sturr Show' on RFD TV featuring the Calhoun Twins? (I believe that was what the announcer stated). They were backed by a steel player on a very pretty red sunburst Jackson guitar who exhibited both excellent tone and tasteful backup throughout. The tune that they performed was, 'For The Good Times', anyone familiar with this fine player? |

The Calhoun's (Jerry and Jack) live about 20 miles east of me. They own "Show Coaches of America" tour bus company. Jimmy Sturr's bus is leased from them, as are many others including Willie Nelson's.
They don't have a band and usually if you see them you see Lynn Owsley on steel, but Lynn has a Derby. Lynn also has tour buses from them. They were scheduled to be on the ISGC this year, with Lynn. |

Jack...They were backed mostly by the house band with the steel player set up out front directly behind the brothers. I assumed that he had been provided by them (not being a regular viewer of the show, not absolutely certain however that he was not also a member of the house band). |

I have watched several shows on RFD in the last few days, Jimmy Sturr being one and Mickey Gilley show for another, that had everybody's credits at the end except the steel player. We mat be getting invisible. _________________ Henry Matthews

I have known Jack and Jerry since they lived on the Florida east coast in the 60s. Played many shows with them myself. The steel player you are hearing on the Jimmy Sturr show was Jack and Jerry's main steel player for many years and my super good friend since that time is Steve Smith who lives now in Canada. A lot of good memories and pictures I have. Steve and myself were suppose to hook up in Dallas this year but he couldn't cut loose from his other gigs. He does a lot of shows and recordings in Canada. I will talk to him soon and maybe he will let you know a lot more.
