Have a little over a hundred hours into this one; Melobro Model XVII with all the goodies; Beard's
Quarterman Cone, #14 Spider with maple ebony capped saddle, Bone nut, Grover Keys, Mahogany Neck, Neck though design for sustain, hardshell case...complete history on my blog, wwwmelobarted.blogspot.com
Discounted to $1,385 = see notes on blog - going to leave it here on the forum for a week so it hopefully goes to a member and the donation.
If you've ever played one of these you know why it got the "Banjo Slayer" nick name this one has a really nice tone too, with the internal tone woods, but nobody's going to walk over you in an acoustic jam - I guarantee it. Less than 25 built and I don't foresee more than one other I have half way done then I'm tossing the molds and you won't see another one again - just takes too much time to get one done. _________________ old Melobar guy |

I looked at the title, then read the description with a measure of surprise. This Melobro is identical to mine. I didn't realize there were less than 25 of them made, or that there were any more in the works.
I received mine when I graduated in 2002. My parents paid for half, and I paid for half, and I have treasured it ever since. I've played some high-end wood-bodied custom resophonics, and this one holds its own against any out there.
It's disappointing that there won't be any more, but I understand. I always kind of wanted an 8-string just like my 6, but never had the chance and the money at the same time.
Ted's description is absolutely true. I have never been short of volume in an acoustic jam, and the tone is great. In addition, Ted is a gentleman among gentlemen- a real treat to deal with. I hope this instrument finds a really good home here. |

Lincoln,
There were a few 8 stringers made.
Ted made one for myself and I "Think" maybe for Howard R also... Possibly Jeff Peterson
I loved anything that Ted ever made for me....

I had a chance to play one of these on my way through Ukiah, CA one time. It was a very nice sounding instrument. I wish I could convince my wife I needed another guitar!
Good luck on the sale. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I've got an 8 too. I just pestered Ted so much that he finally made one. |

I have one of these babies and I am fixing to send it to Paul Beard to have him hot rod it with the Douglas Fishman Aura bridge insert and then a crazy looking solar coverplate which I think will look cool and compliment the design of the instrument. |
