Hey
I have heard this unit come up many times here on the forum for sale.
Im assuming that it is related to the pedal steel in some way?
Is it just a rack mount multi-effects unit? Or does it do more? What does it do? _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

It's both a rack mount effects unit and a preamp. You can use it to drive a power amp and speaker cabinets. I had one and my only beef with it was you can't really change parameters in the programs on the fly. Say you wanted to increase/decrease the reverb in a patch, you have to enter programming mode, find the parameter, save it and continue playing. I always had 2 similar programs next to each other with slight variations I might make for different rooms, etc. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I agree with Jeff. I used a Profex II for a short time. There is a reason you see a good many of them for sale. Unless your really good at doing your own presets I would highly recommend you also get the cache card with the Jeff Newman settings in it if you're looking at a Profex.
The built in presets are useless for PSG. My personal opinion is you could do better with a good amp and a couple of pedals or another rack mount effects processor.
All I use now is reverb and a little delay. On a rare occasion I add chorus.
Then again there are some that absolutely love the Profex. To each his own. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

I find most multieffects units have this despicable trait.
This is why I call them "Satan-born agents of frustration creation." _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Right Lane. The reason I don't use them. I do have an RP155, but only use it for reverb. Actually, it can be adjusted "on the fly", but still that takes time. I just set it on top of my amp and run it through the effects loop on the front of my Nashville 400. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I used a Profex for a while, then bought a Boss RV-3 reverb/delay and never looked back. That little stomp box does all I need and the adjustments are simple and quick.
Just my $.02 worth.

Take it from Fred T., aka "Mr. Smooth", he sure does make his steel sing whether he plays his Emmons or LDG Shobud.
See you at the November jam Fred.

I bought an original Pro Fex, I am quite happy with it. I put in few of Jack Stoner's presets, and some settings Jim Lindsey had from his Pro Fex II. I have mine hooked up with my Walker Stereo Steel combo amp head. I get a sweet and smooth tone to it. I also have a Sarno Steel guitar Black Box, hooked up to my guitar. Very clean and warm tone, and excellent separation. |
