I admit I have a STRONG bias¹, but I'd say the Black Box.
¹I'm not biased for the BB, but against all multieffects units, and Peavey in particular. Too hard to change one variable within a patch (If you want more reverb on one song, you shouldn't have to punch 7 buttons or one button 7 times). And creating patches. Bah. Hell-spawned agents of frustration. Give me three stomp boxen on the floor.

I haven't played through a Tubefex before, but I don't think I will because of how happy I am with my Black Box. The thing makes every thing you play sound good. My theory is that Brad secretly built some sort of pitch correction in there  The Black Box is an amazing tool for recording, gigging, or just getting inspired during practice. One time I accidentally left my reverb at home for a quiet trio gig, but had the Black Box. I was bummed at first, but as we started playing I was amazed at how little being without reverb seemed to matter. In that way, you could say the BB IS a multi effects unit!

Thanks Lane and Rick. I certainly don't need an effects processor that I can't work! I'm using a rack right now is why I was aking about the Tubefex. But, sounds like a black box is the way to go. Thanks again.

In their defense, I know many musicians that like them. Including good musicians. I've only toyed with a profex and some kind of Zoom. It didn't take long to realize that these things are exactly not my cup of tea.

Basic effects are reverb and delay and pedals do a great job for that and turning a knob is user friendly, IMO.
However, if you like a good tube preamp such as the Rev Preamp (and who doesn't) with a processor or even a few pedals go for it.
I agree that trying to program a tubefex or digital processor with cursors via a small screen can be awkward. |
