I just read Bobbe's newsmail. I agree somewhat regarding possesions, but I adamantly disagree of his statement about third world countrys hating America because of possesions.
I posit that they hate America because of its misguided foreign policies and seeming bigotry.
we are entitled to our opinions, and I respect that.(one of the good things about our wonderful country).
we need to pay attention to the beauty and awe of other cultures.
in music it is very important.
in musical instruments it is essential. |

I also just finished Bobbe's latest... although I totally agree with Randy, and there are some very divisive political/ economic factors at work here, the main point Bobbe makes about taking joy in another's success or achievement is as valid as it gets. The microcosm of the "steel world" and our strengths and foibles there are mirrored in the larger cosmos. I've often watched the bickerings and jealousies between bands or artists, and been reminded of squabbling nations.
It sure would be nice if our first reactions were always joy at another's accomplishment. In a lot of ways our culture doesn't seem to foster that.[This message was edited by Mark van Allen on 05 October 2006 at 11:06 AM.] |

Randy, I didn't meant they hate us because of our posessions, but instead, because of our freedom and life styles,
Thank you for pointing this out Randy. Quite often, I don't really proof read these letters, but sort of "fire from the hip" so to speak.
Your right to disagree with me is a priviledge that many have died for so you can, so I respect your opinions, all of them, regardless if they line up with mine or not.
I'm proud that you care enough to disagree! Thank you,
Your buddy,
Bobbe, [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 05 October 2006 at 02:05 PM.] |

Isn;t funny how these third world countries that hate us are always in line to the USA with there hand out for money and aid. |

First, I agree about the weirdness of jealousy. Where I work, people get steamed when somebody else gets a raise, but I say we should be happy because it gives the rest of us more claim for a raise.
Second, if you want to hear a fantastic example of a person from one culture showing appreciation of another very different culture, go to "The Theif" on the lower right of the page below.

what a great and timely thread.
aside for world politics I personally take great glee when someone I know has a success; financial, equipment, recognition, etc. because I know they have earned it.
I donot , however respect greed. they enjoy rubbing our faces in it.
poor them. |
