I would like to replace the "deluxe" tuners on my Gibson br-6..
any suggestions of new tuners that do not require drilling?

I've seen those with both closed in and open backed tuners but if yours says "Deluxe" and is the closed in type (3 on a strip) they are easy to find. They are the same ones Gibson used on Les Paul Junior and Melody Maker guitars.

I was expecting to see cracked/deformed/missing buttons.
What's wrong with them? |

they were missing the buttons.. I just put those on so I could string it up...
the "mechanisms" are tight.. some are bent or a little sloppy , and some are not easy to turn... |

You can pop the covers off and clean/lube them Tim.
I've had good results with both tri-flow and silicon spray lube- just be careful not to get it on anything but the tuners- it will stain.

it's in really nice shape. not sure of the year, I don't think it was played much
It has the "care and feeding" Gibson card and a Magnatone amp card they must have bought with it

| she looks all clean and fresh, early 50s is my guess, these tuners always just rotted away, they had some kinda reaction with the brass i guess. Not the end of the world that they are replaced buttons. at least they were not the metal flake variety that oahu used on some of the dianas and others, or magnatone clears, should not hurt the value too bad........................You can take these off the guitar heat them with a soldering iron and push new ones on if you are very careful, but there is usually a couple of burns and some bad grammer involved. |
