I just received notification that Phil Jones Amps is working on a new small amp that is 500W class D into an 8" speaker that is super clean, great for steel guitar and only weights about 25 lb. You can carry it in a bag over your shoulder. It should be in production by Jan 1.
I don't have any more details, but have asked to stay in the loop on its availability. Hope it has an extension speaker jack, and/or line out on it.

500W? 8 inch speaker? Yikes!

I hope there is a fan for the speaker's voice coil!

Has anyone tried a Quilter for steel? This sounds like a similar design. You can get a quilter with a 12" speaker. I haven't had the scoots to give one a go as yet.

Hal Stackhouse, a forum member bought a Quilter and seems to like it, although he has been using his stereo steel the last couple of gatherings.

I saw the thread Jim Pali started about the quilters and the developement that is going on now for steel applications.

Pat Quilter is a good friend of some surf gene players I know in Orange Co., CA. Blonde Showmans be damned they are all playing Quilters now.

Regardless of how its done and by whom, I have to say its really nice to see a lot of options for steel players these days! We were forgotten for so long - now there are choices for us and many of them good.

I know that tubes are not for everyone - glad to see some solid state amps joining the party
