Just got my custom RAM Speak Easy 8 a couple weeks ago from Ron at RAM Guitar. Oh man, am I having fun with it! I still have my Fender Stringmaster T-8 (console) but I love having a single 8 too.
I finally got some time to set up the camera and make a demo video:

Ron was great in helping find the best options for my style and the price was definitely competitive.
Highlights:
• Custom 8-string lap steel
• Scale length 22.5"
• Lollar Gibson Console Grand 8-string Pickup
• Mahogany body, 1.8" solid and mahogany neck (it's heavy!)
• Rosewood fretboard
• Corian nut
• 3/8" string spacing at bridge
• 2.5" (almost) at nut
Any other owners wanna comment on their's?

...great tone out of the new guitar and I liked the pedal effect.
What pedal is that?
Thanks!

Nice sound - beautiful guitar. I just looked at the single 8 console on his site - man, I'd always wished Gibson had produced a single neck console. My little mind has enough with one tuning. _________________ Al

Michael, that's the Fender reissue volume/tone pedal. Two pots: up and down is volume and back and forth is tone. Good value for the price.
That's another reason I like the Speak Easy. Great tone dynamics (lows and highs) for good boo-wah effect. |

I have one also. Mine looks just the same as your's.
I think I probably have a different tuning on mine.
I guess it would be called a C13th. The 1st. string is D, 2nd. string is E, 3rd. string is C, 4th. string is A, 5th. string is G, 6th. string is E, 7th. string is C, and 8th. string is Bb for 7th chords. The D note on the 1st. string is for all the Emmons type single string patterns and scales. Tommy...... |

That's interesting! I almost chose the CC. What sort of amp are you running through in this video? |

It's a Vintage47 Oahu Tonemaster, I can't find the exact amp on his website anymore but he makes stuff along the lines of the old National/Valco amps.

Also, my SpeakEasy is long scale, 24". |

I love my Vintage 47 Tonemaster. I have a Tonemaster 12 watt supreme with a 12" V47 Hemp Core speaker by tone tuby. I talked to David before he built mine and when I told him I wanted it for lap steel he put in the hemp core speaker. He builds them One at a time and they are great amps.

Yep that looks just like mine. Whenever he built mine he tried the hemp cone speaker but had problems, I'd like to hear what yours sounds like. That's a sweet Oahu lap steel. What is the serial number on your amp? |
