Please would it be ok to use a 4 ohm Black Widow speaker as an extension cab with my Roland 80x amp?
Thanks Jimmy. |

I do it all the time.
It sounds f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c!
I love the way it blooms out the lowest octave- just gives it that extra air movement the internal speaker doesn't.
I've ran guitar, lap steel, pedal steel (C6& Ext E9), even a Korg wave drum with this setup- and it sounds awesome.
I am continually amazed by the performance of this amp.

edited to ad- I just noticed you have an 80X
Mine is an 80XL....
I don't know if there is a difference...Does yours have the series connected external speaker jack?
If yes- then it is the same as the 80XL and your results should be similar.

It also works well with a 4-ohm Eminence EPS-15C. Really fills out the sound. Someone said on an earlier post that the 4-ohm speaker will be getting about 60% of the amp's output, hope that's accurate. I just know it sounds good, and it doesn't hurt the amp. |

Its 16ohm max and 8ohm min and speaker out is in series with internal speaker thats 12ohm, so you should be fine, ive done it with no problem, _________________ Rittenberry SD10, 2 nashville 112s with telonics speaker, behringer EPQ450 power amp, 705 pups, Telonics FP-100, live steel strings, mogami cords, wet reverb |

How about the Nashville 112E speaker cab. It has one 12" Black Widow 1203-4 speaker. 4 ohms?????

Prob an easy way to remember is any 8ohm or 4ohm external speaker should work just fine on 80xl, i think they are the same amp except xl just has something a little extra in the reverb or delay, check the back of your amp if it says 8 ohms max on speaker out you should be fine, _________________ Rittenberry SD10, 2 nashville 112s with telonics speaker, behringer EPQ450 power amp, 705 pups, Telonics FP-100, live steel strings, mogami cords, wet reverb |

I connected my Peavey 112E to the Roland Cube 80XL, it works great, no lost in volume on the Cube speaker.
Thanks

I think 8 or 16 ohms is ok but not 4 ohms if the ext speaker out is 8 ohms max. Maybe one of the amp gurus could pipe in. |

Jerry- 4 is preferred-
This is not your typical 'parallel' connection, it is in series, so 8 will probably be ok, but 16 will probably start limiting your power output.
It will not hurt anything, you will just start to lose volume.

I called roland when i got mine and they said 16 ohm max for 2 speakers in series so a 8ohm internal speaker and a 4ohm extention speaker is 12 ohms in series witch is not exceding 16 ohm thats why it says 8 ohm max on speaker out so if you use a 8 ohm then you are at 16 ohm max, according to that you could use a 2 ohm ext speaker and be safe. _________________ Rittenberry SD10, 2 nashville 112s with telonics speaker, behringer EPQ450 power amp, 705 pups, Telonics FP-100, live steel strings, mogami cords, wet reverb |

I used the Black Widow extension speaker over the weekend and what an amazing sound my steel has never sounded so good and with the amp set on the Black Face my telecaster sounded absolutely awesome, these little Roland amps are amazing for their size.
