When playing through my NV 112, I have a sound I love coming through the speaker. When I plug in my headphones, the sound is obviously different. Sometimes I can hear a little distortion, when the delay pedal is on I hear very precise feedbacks rather than a smooth flow like through the speaker. My main question is is this just the nature of hearing it through headphones, or is this the sound more like what the mic picks up when playing live since it's so close to the speaker's cone, compared to the distance between the speaker and my ear? I keep my amp on a stand about 4' behind and angled towards me when playing live, so it hits one ear while still somewhat facing the audience.
Secondary, if when playing live I chose to run through the Direct Out, would it receive the sound more like whats coming through the headphones again? Does this bypass the amps EQ as well?
Hall of fame inductee Wanda Jackson is opening for my band this weekend, so I have to bring the fire! I'll more than likely mic the amp, I'm just wanting to know if I need to change my amp and pedal settings to accommodate these changes in sound I'm hearing through headphones. It's a decent headphone ($50) I have to adapt from stereo to 1/4", but not studio quality. _________________ Johnny Up PSG Lessons @

John.
The problem is the response of the headphones.
Unless you get into very high quality studio headphones, it will always sound different than the speaker out.
Your direct output will sound pure and clean when it leaves the preamp to the board. When it comes back through the mains or the monitors it will sound much like your speaker does if the mix is proper.
