THE NEXT AUSTIN STEEL GUITAR CO-OP MEETING will be SUNDAY, AUG. 18, 2-5pm at the 290 West Bar & Grill, Austin, TX.

Featured artist will be DAVE BILLER.

DAVE LEROY BILLER has been playing music professionally since about 1980,
mainly as a guitarist until he became a full time steeler 8 years ago.
Since then he has performed with an impressive list of country music's past,
present and future greats. Among them are; Ray Price, Ferlin Husky, Tony
Booth, George Strait, Asleep at the Wheel, Darrell McCall, Leona Williams
and Johnny Bush. Currently, Dave divides his time between full time status
with Johnny Bush's legendary group, the Bandoleros, and rising star Amber
Digby and her band, Midnite Flyer. All this while working various gigs at
clubs and dancehalls throughout the state of Texas and beyond, and a steady
flow of recording session work. Sometimes he can even be coaxed into
pulling out the old dusty 6-stringer!

It was a good time and a good turn-out at the Austin Steel Guitar Coop yesterday, Aug. 18, 2013. The afternoon kicked off with a round robin of warm-up tunes, "Crazy Arms," and "Steelin' the Blues," and then each steeler picked a tune to play with the house band.

Dave Biller did a fine set as the featured artist, bringing in his fellow Bandolero from Johnny Bush's band, T Jarrod Bonta on piano, backed by the house band of Rob Harding-guitar, Charlie Irwin-bass, and John Chandler-drums.

The jam continued with another hour of round robin tunes, each player playing a chorus, and passing it along to the next. Steel guitar jammers included Herb Steiner, Wayne Dahl, Ken Metcalf, birthday boy Steve Cowell, Ray Hadaway, Chris Beirne and Rose Sinclair, along with Dean Schilling on trumpet. Some of the tunes included "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "Faded Love," "The Nearness of You," "Boot Heel Drag," "Tell Me Why You Been Gone So Long," the jam wrapping up with "Freddie Freeloader." We want to welcome Wayne Dahl (Martina McBride's steeler) who just moved to the area from Nashville. Other steel players in the house included Neil Flanz, Geoff Queen, Scott Martin, Craig Park, Commander Dave Goodman and Stewart Johnson from the British band, The Toy Hearts. My apologies to any steel players I may have omitted. What can I say? The room was packed.

Thanks to Chuck Interrante for taking photos, to Steve Cowell for videotaping Dave Biller's set, and to James Faron and the staff at the 290 for hosting the steel club. "Happy Trails" to house guitarist Rob Harding who is moving back to his home state of Idaho. We wish him all the best and hope he'll come back and visit soon.

Thanks to all the folks who came out to listen and enjoy the afternoon of steel guitar music and camaraderie at the 290 West Bar & Grill, Austin, TX.
