For those of you that don't frequent the Jerry Douglas Bulletin Board, JD posted an update this morning on the CD that dobroholics everywhere have been waiting for:

Quote:
This week Rob Ickes and I have been mixing the recording we made with Mike Auldridge last year. Gary Paczosa has transformed this into exactly what Rob and I had hoped for when we started thinking about what it could be. Mike has never played better, and hearing his voice again on playback, as melancholy as that has been, was a driving factor.

All three of our usual guitars, along with Mike's two old 37's and Josh Graves "ole Cliff" have new life we haven't heard in awhile. I worried a bit about three dobros together and how they might jam up the tonal spectrum all fighting for the same space, but that worry is completely gone. We are panned in the same positions thoughout the record leaving no doubt as to 'who is who?'. Simply amazing. Like sticking your head in each guitar.

A few times I imagined Mike with his hands over his head there in the middle while Rob and I are swatting away in a flurry of notes. It was a great place to be while we were actually recording this, but I think we have re-created the experience as close as is possible.

Soon we will be able to tell you where and when it is coming to you. Until then, maybe just this description can hold you.

I've heard roughs of about half the CD.

So...hold on to your hats on this one. Pretty darn remarkable.

I was hoping it would be closer to the release date by now but this will definitely be worth the wait. Cool

I know what you mean. Waiting for Jerry to tell us what label is going to handle this.

Mike was so enthusiastic about this project. He was killer on the stuff that I heard.

He went out on top.<sigh>
