I'm the guy who ended up grabbing that Pre-T Rick from Elderly... Came in the mail today, sounds great, looks great. As promised. My one question is, how does one go about measuring the width of the pickup? Pardon my ignorance... The chromed horseshoe part is exactly 1.5" wide... The "normal" pickup part is around 1.25". Kind of hard to get an exact measurement as it's still strung up.

The guitar does have the Pre-T Rickenbacher (with the ch) Logo as well as the string through body.... So, I'm assuming the measurement I should take is from the "horseshoe", than it is correct. From what research I've done, this model should date between 39-45 and SHOULD have a 1.5" pickup. It wasn't till they switched to the "T" style logo that the pickup went down to 1.25". At any rate, I just wanted to make sure there isn't anything suspect.... Thanks in advance!

Rick, I'm glad to hear it from the horse's mouth! Sometimes when a deal is really good, you may find yourself in a situation where it's "too good to be true". Dealing with Elderly, I could always send it back... But NO WAY! Shoot, I almost popped on a BR-9 for the price that this was at. Glad I held off!

1.5" is the width of the prewar magnets .... You have the genuine article Mr. Green

My site has some useful info on prewar bakelites ...

Yes--you can usually tell, even in a picture, just by the visible width of that gleeming chrome.

You can see the pickup size diff between the pre-war Silver Hawaiian and the post-war panda.

Oh yeah! That is very visually apparent now.... I just didn't know what I was measuring, and it made me a little nervous when the "pickup" portion was really close to 1.25". Thanks for the education guys!

Elderly had an 8-string Silver Hawaiian with a pre-war pickup listed for $495.00 this morning... but it's gone.

I wonder who's pricing things over there? That silver hawaiian seems like a darn good deal too depending on condition, especially being an 8 stringer. Maybe I'm wrong, my ignorance could be showing again

And lets not forget Patrick's B6 is a string-thru body model; much more desirable than that clunky tail piece that inhibits tonal transfer.
