So my friend gave me one of these recently! It needs some work but I'm planning on taking it to the amp tech tomorrow. Was just wondering if anybody has used one of these for steel and what it sounds like with pedal?

GREAT clean amp!
Super high voltage in this baby.
My kid has one he plays melodic metal through- it stays real punchy...even with de-tuned 7 sting guitar.
He did put some Eminence speakers in it.
Get some good 6550s, a cap job (that could be a $$$ adventure) - the power supply voltage is so high you need to stack the caps...so it's twice the caps-twice the $$$....
I have the schematic for it if your tech needs it, just send me a PM and I'll get it out to you.
I have not played my pedal steels through it, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work out to your liking.
...And the person that gave it to you- that's a GOOD friend!!!

Killer amp. Schematic almost identical to a Twin Reverb, except for the power tubes. |

Aims used to be located here in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ so there was a fair amount of them around here back in the day. All I remember is that they were not a subtle amp. Extremely loud and in your face. People in music stores would clear the area whenever one of them got fired up for a demo! |

If you decide you don't want it, just send it to E TN... my birthday was last month, but that's OK... _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

Cool! Yeah I'm super excited about it! Plugged it in yesterday and it sounded great! Took it in today to get recapped and cleaned up. Can't wait to hear how it sounds when I get it back! Thinking about maybe putting new speakers in it soon as well. The ones that are in it are extremely heavy! What kind of speakers would you guys suggest I put in it? Thanks! |

Sound clips!!!
We want sound clips!!!
Please include some of them fancy foot-boxes there on the floor, too!
Edited to add:
What do you think about the reverb?
The reverb in my kids amps sounds really good-

Yeah for sure!! I'll try and post some sound clips soon. Played a show with it for the first time the other night and it was great! It's sooo loud! Thinking about putting different speakers in it. The speakers in it sound great but they're extremely heavy, giant magnets. What would you guys suggest? |

What kind of speakers are in there now?
I can see the metal dust caps....
JBLs?
Post a shot of the back, with the date code on the speakers, if you can.

Here's a couple pictures. The magnets are big and square. There's something written on one of them but its hard to tell what it is.

kickstand!!!
My kids' amp has that also- it works pretty good.
Those look like maybe Eminence speakers?
Date code starts with 67?
...looks like the 8th week of 1971?

So I spent part of today playing music with my son and a friend of his-
He plugged my BW equipped 15" open back cab into his AIMS amp and played 6 string bass through it.
It sounded GREAT!!!
He was doing the poppin' and full 3 note chords and all that fun stuff the kids do these days-
Very nice sound indeed.
We're doing a gig for fun next month and I think that's the rig he'll use....

Oh cool! Yeah just played another gig with it last night and it sounded so great, for steel and guitar. So much headroom and so clear but warm and tubey. Finally able to play high up on the neck too! Feels like I have so more sustain then I used to have.
Found another one on Craigslist in Phoenix this week! Just got it yesterday! It's the same model, it doesn't have speakers, tubes or a reverb tank so it's gonna be a project to get running. I'm thinking of modding it to fit a 15 speaker.
