after having surgery on her thumb sandy is just starting to learn to play the steel , (as in the last 2 days )
she is counting the strings before plucking them trying hard to get the feel of things ,
and I must admit its hard to watch but I am proud she is trying so hard !!! _________________ proud parent of a sailor

My wife has been learning, and doing pretty good. She has been at it for a little under 2 years.
she recently finished the Jeff Newman "Up from the top" series on the A&B pedals and the E and F levers (what Jeff calls them). That is probably 90$ or more of what we mostly use. |

Well, I think that's great Calvin. After a year of playing, I can't imagine my life without it, now that I don't have a life anymore. haha! But seriously, did your wife in part take up the steel for therapeutic reasons? |

Jack, I've been thinking of getting into Jeff Newman's courses. I really liked his articles in Steel Guitarist but I'm still unsure which course to take first. The one your wife is finishing up sounds about right, but I feel I've got a pretty good handle on the A &B/E &F thing, at least for a beginner. I'd also like to try John Hughey's material, even though those are not necessarily lessons, per se. |

Calvin -
I have an ulterior motive is suggesting this but you REALLY, REALLY need to get her super involved and interested in the instrument. The hidden benefit is that you'll never have to worry about GAS again.
Don't let her read this or you'll have to come up with an alternative definition of GAS. Be creative and you'll be home, free.
