Looking for pickup recommendations for this guitar-

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1938831&highlight=#1938831

It's up and running, two gigs in, but the George L is a little too hot for the sound I want. All thoughts appreciated, but I'm not going to spring for a horseshoe at this point.

Thanks,

Asa

adjust the pickup down..lower it away from the strings.

turn your amp volume down.

less bass, more treble.

I'd love to hear a recording or see a video with this setup. Without hearing it my opinion of the George L is that it's more of a current, modern sound (pedal steely). A vintage repro pickup is where I'd start looking/listening. That's just my approach though!

Noted- my feeling is that all the eq / pickup height adjustments in the world won't make a les paul sound like a tele. George l's have never been my favorite- I'll probably go single coil. The body, cast alluminum, is unique to any other electric instrument I've played- wondering what pickups fry- pan players have tried?
I'll get some video together soon.

Thanks,

Asa

What does it look like now you've cleaned it up?

Alan- essentially the same, but with a 'working' fretboard, measured and marked with transparent tape, pot wired for tone with a cap (still unsatisfied with the boo-wah effect), a single new tuner, all glue residue removed, and marginally less dirt! No vision of beauty for sure, but completely playable now. The string spacing is pedal steel tight vs. other 8 string's I've played, which I really like. Recently I've been playing with a fella named Ryan Cook, who has Kayton Roberts all over his latest album- such a rewarding challenge figuring out his parts. Next month I'll be sharing the stage with him at a Hank Snow tribute in his home town here in Nova Scotia- really lighting a fire to get this fry pan sounding right!
