I am having a problem with my middle finger pick (the one on my middle finger using only 2, that could have been confusing haha). The bent part above my nail is striking the string above the intended string. I have tried everything from putting the pick almost straight to a sharp bend. I would just open my finger more for a better angle but that is not possible in tight groupings with skinny long fingers. Please help with tips! thanks guys! |

Cody, I'm certainly no expert but I will say this,
I used to give tennis lessons. Some of the movements of tennis, particularly running for the ball with the racket held back ready to swing, can feel un-natural until the player practices so that it becomes a natural movement. I believe it can be the same with the steel, especially the right (picking)hand. Or, like a golf swing. Maybe your grip is causes the problem. They way you attack the strings and curl your hand with the right hand. These movements can feel un-natural until you work on 'em to become a natural movement. Kinda like someone with bad posture trying to improve their standing posture. It takes effort till it becomes natural. Examine your right hand "posture" and correct it till it becomes natural.
Hope that helps.
PS - Whenever my playing doesn't sound right it's usually my right hand, and improper right hand "posture". _________________ Just 'cause I look stupid, don't mean I'm not. |

I have to keep the finger nail on my middle finger trimmed fairly close or else I have this problem. I carry fingernail clippers in my seat at all times. |

You're probably curling your fingers too much. Keep the middle joint of your fingers more or less perpendicular to the top of the guitar, and that problem will disappear. |
