One of my buddies was lucky enough to get passes to see Dale on The Late Show last night and I couldnt stay up late enough to watch, but here is the clip of 'I lie when I drink' that Dale and the Lonestars performed last night.

Good sound Don Don on steel was loud and clear and had some nice closeups, and Dale and the band were as classy as ever.

Only problem is Dave asked Don Don if he was playing a lap steel and say,'Is that hard to play?'

Enjoy!

Now that's good Country exposure. Got a kick out of David asking the Steel player if it was a lap Steel Smile and was it hard to play. Wink

A lead singer who plays lead guitar, with a band that dresses up and turns down, playing an old-new-stock honky tonk tune about drinkin' in a honky tonk.Sublime!

Yep, that's pretty cool. Great example of genuine honky tonk country. I'd say if you don't like that, then you don't like country.

Thanks for putting that up Craig. I wanted to stay awake for it, but some meds for a sprained shoulder put me out. When I woke up, Craigy Ferg was on. Laughing

That's my favorite configuration to play in. Just guitar and steel gettin' it done along with bass and drums.

Dave seems to like pickin' on steel players. I've heard him say things like that several times. I think he likes steel.

Turned it on last night just to catch Dale Watson...gotta agree with all the comments...taste, tone and a cool tune.
Dale will be in Milwaukee & Madison, WI at the end of July...gonna have to catch one of those shows.

Thanks for the link.

Looking and sounding great, Don! Is that the same Sho-Bud you used to play with The Souvenirs?

Dale Watson plays most Sundays at Jenny's Little Longhorn close to my house.
No cover, $2.50 beer, free hot dogs, Chicken shit bingo.
It is so full that it is typically standing room in the parking lot outside.
He is a real nice guy and funny to boot.
Rides up on his Harley with amp and guitar strapped on..
Austin has some good moments ... Good and bad like everywhere, but is is nice to live in the center of the steel guitar universe. Cool

You have to give Letterman a lot of credit for having many quality musical acts on the show over the years, but as alluded to earlier by Joe Casey, asking Don at the end "is that a lap steel?" C'mon Dave!

Well at least he was in the ballpark...

Once when Lloyd Maines was on the Letterman show with the Dixie Chicks, Letterman asked Natalie if that was her Dad playing the "keyboard."

I read that Dave Letterman heard Dale's new CD on the radio and instructed his staff to get him to play on the show.

Great exposure for Dale and couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I love Don's playing too, they play together like they have one mind.

Dave's sorta goofy sometimes. You can't take him too seriously. I think he's just messin' with the steel players and other musicians with his off the wall comments.

He knows what a pedal steel guitar is. After all, guitarist Sid McGinnis in the Late Show band plays one sometimes.

Dale plays thru this area occassionally. I always try to make the show. Dave and Don Don are very nice and approchable people. I was honored once in Raleigh when they got me up to sit in on a couple of tunes. Don't miss them if they come around your area. And oh, yeah I agree, I think Dave knows better. His whole thing is just being goofy.
