I saw one of these nearby on Craigslist and went over and bought it. It is an all in one cabinet bass amp with 2-15" Standel speakers. I was wondering if anyone can give me some information concerning the amp. I remember seeing some when I was growing up, and the look is familiar.
The amp is loud and clean, but I would like to know which components might need servicing to make it safe to use.
thanks,

Don't fix it if it aint broke!!!
...well....if it still has a two pronged power cord you'd probably want that replaced.
If there is no hum leave the caps to be changed when they really need it....
Use it!
That's the best thing to do-

From what I can tell this amp is one of the first of that series (Super Imperial)and has two Standel labeled Altec 418B speakers that are like new.
The inside of the chassis looks very clean also.
I spent a good deal of time cleaning it up, and it looks pretty respectable. Now I need to try my PSG through it.

I have a Standel with 4 10" altec speakers-
the thing is 60 watts, but it sounds great as long as you don't push the amp too hard. |

In 1962, I bought an Imperial XV through Irby Mandrell(Barb's dad) who was sales rep for Standel. It was a piggyback with a JBL 15. That was about a year before reverb in amps and I traded it for a Fender Super Reverb with verb in '63. It was a great sounding amp but wanted verb. |
