Hi, all. I saw this listing on eBay for a Sho-Bud in rough shape, not far from where I live. I don't know much about the history of Sho-Buds; can any of you folks give me some idea if it's worth restoring? How old it is? Some of the pix look to me like it's not original - headstock, for example? They pulled the listing because they weren't sure if it was original, but it's still in their warehouse.

I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks a lot.

That is not a Sho-Bud.

Wayne,

I contacted them and told them it was not a Bud (at least not like one I've ever seen). They asked for more info; I gave them what I could (not including who might have made it). Looks like either a very complicated pull-release, or a unique push-pull changer. Kind of Miller like, but I've never seen one up close, and this doesn't quite look like the pics of them I've seen. Anyone else have any ideas what this is?

As a project, this is a major piece of work. Definitely not worth anything close to what they were asking. i don't think they were scamming, just uninformed. This is leftovers from a large New England dealer that went bankrupt a year or two ago. Selling off left over stuff to help pay creditors, I am guessing. I offered to post the pics on the forum to help correctly identify the guitar, but they didn't get back to me on that.

I looked at it today - thanks, everyone, for the advice. It's pretty weird underneath - not that I know a ton about steel mechanisms... it has a single-pole push-on push-off switch activated by one of the knees, connected to a jack on the undercarriage...?? One of the cross rods is round with no flat. That doesn't seem like a great idea. Single raise, single lower changer. The folks at the Groove Exchange don't know anything about steels. They're holding it on consignment for someone who apparently traded a Les Paul for it. Oops.

Wayne,

thanks for the update. Am I correct that Groove Exchange is Daddy's Junky Music's leftover stock?

The owner, Mike Bramante, told me he had been a manager at some Daddy's stores (Peabody, MA, comes to mind), so he might still have some connections there.

Indeed; his father Fred was the founder and owner of the chain.
