The original stock legs for an old ShoBud are quite heavy being steel and chrome.

Have any of you tried modern alu legs on a SB? Can they do the job OK?

Tom check these lightweight legs out, they are really great, and look exactly like the chromed steel legs - I bought them for my flying kit but there is nothing to stop someone from using them all the time - the guitar remains very stable

Thanks Paddy. Yes, that's the legs I was wondering about. The "Airline" legs are some kind of alu alloy, not steel. They would be more flexible. I wonder if guys playing old Sho-buds find that these legs make the guitar too wobbly on stage. Like when you hit a stiff knee lever and the whole body of the guitar moves a bit.

Actually Tom there is no flexibility in them, I use them on my Zum's and the guitar is just as stable as it is with the normal legs.
The only noticeable difference is the they are quite a bit lighter :-} they are chromed Aluminum and look identical to the steel ones.

Does anyone know how much lighter they are? I was wanting to lighten my rig also.

I echo Paddy's comments. I have a set, and they brought the weight of my cased Emmons PP S-10 down from 57lbs to 49lbs, making the guitar *regular* checked baggage on domestic airlines and avoiding the $50-75+ excess fees normally charged for items over 50lbs.

I bought a set of the light weight aluminum legs for my Franklin. I didn't like them, too light, and I was concerned about holding up. I sold them soon after I tried them.

What I have done is build a two piece case set, one for the steel and the other for the pedal bar, legs and pedal rods. Lightens the load considerably. The cases are made of 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood (the best grade Baltic Birch not what is sold at Lowes or Home Depot).

Depending on the age of your Bud, the new style legs might not be the right size on the threads.

The guitar is a 71 Professional. I think they are standard threads.

I use these on my Sho-Bud Professional SD-10 every gig and have no problems at all. Any minimal play that exists because of the lighter metal is well worth the weight reduction. I'll soon be getting another set for my D-10 ProIII Custom, as of now that monster in a case with steel legs will ruin your back in no time. New set of legs will help me drag it out once in a while.

A similar leg is fitted standard on MSA Millenium ,and probably rest of MSA range, have absolutely no problem with them, great saving on weight.
