Just got this message concerning our NZ steel club founder from his friend Jim Carter;
Hi Ron, am sorry to have to tell you that Mac died on june 21 2013 I will miss him as he was one of only two steel guitarists I know in NZ. As you know he ran the nz hsga and I don't think anyone else will take it on. His wife Louisa died a month later on july 26. I only learnedabout it two days ago when I phoned up to see why he hadn't returned my emails. He leaves three daughters and a grandson I am not very good at posting on the Forum so I thought I would let you know instead.
Aloha nui Jim.
Sorry to hear of this loss and am glad I got a rare copy from Mac of Jerry Byrd's last visit to NZ where he hung out back and played steel with some of his Hawaiian and New Zealand friends. |

While I didn't know Mac, condolences to his family from a fellow Kiwi steel player. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

No Donna, I think you might have a different "Mac" in mind.
I'm so sorry to hear of the demise of both Mac and his wife Louisa. I had the privilege of enjoying their company and home in Aukland a number of years ago when I guested at the NZHSGA. Louisa was not well in those days yet she managed to host a fine party for all of us. Mac played excellent steel when he was featured on stage. I managed to stay in touch with them for a few years via e-mail. Wonderful friends.[/i] |
