Any reason I couldn't or shouldn't use one of these to extend the length of my Hilton power supply?

A long DC cable may pick up "motor boating" noise that makes a recognizable blub blub blub.

At that price why not try it, then tell us how it goes? I'd duct-tape the junction together as that would be a weak link... or, since I can solder, I'd just splice in some wire and go *really* cheap.

I figured the same, Stephen. For that price, why not try it. I ordered it this morning. We'll see how it goes. I'll post on here to let everyone know. It's only a 5ft. extension. I would think such a short length wouldn't introduce any noise, but I'll found out soon enough.

That's what I always hate about wal warts. The cables are never long enough. I have to have a power strip close to me and off to my right to plug in the 3 wal warts and 2 regular plugs I need. If they were twice as long, I could my strip back by my amp and out of the way. One of the regular cords (for my tube distortion pedal) has a regular plug, a few feet or 120v lamp cord cable, the transformer and then another 4 or 5 feet of the low voltage cable with the plug that goes into the box. That one will make it back to my amp. Why don't they all do that? Cost. That's why.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, Richard, I'm setting up a new simplified pedalboard and I'm wanting to get my power strip back behind or beside my amp. The detachable supply on my Hilton is only 5ft. long and I don't have or want a power strip on my seat...

I recently made up an extension cable for my Hilton and discovered that the center pin was larger in diameter than similar looking "Boss" style connectors. Perhaps this is widely known but thought I'd mention it just in case. I hope your new cable fits the Hilton adapter's end.

I think a safer solution would be to get the proper power strip with a long enough cord to suit your needs. Then plug your amp and wart into the same strip. If you alter and ruin your Hilton power supply, you're on your own. Hilton doesn't warranty power supplies. If it damages your pedal you're in for a fee for repair plus shipping. Just sayin' Smile

I've been using one I made myself for a few years now. No problems whatsoever. About 5'.

The main thing to consider is the size of the tip. My pedals have used the following tip size since January of 2008. 2.1X5.5mm. The 2.1 is the pin inside the barrel. The barrel is 5.5. By the way, on my standard pedal and low profile pedals the center pin is positive. On my new Pro Guitar pedals introduced January of 2013 the center pin is negative. All of the Boss effect units I have seen use 2.1X5.5mm tips, and the center pin is negative. The "OTHER" common size tip is 2.5X5.5mm. The barrel is the same, but the tip is bigger. Meaning 2.5 is bigger than 2.1. I doubt noise picked up in the extended length would be a problem, as I have filtering on the circuit board. But-anything is possible. Usually-- the only thing associated with long power cords is voltage loss. I doubt that it would be that much voltage loss, because you are not talking about that much distance. Try it, I do not think it hurt or damage anything.

Rather than a standard power strip, I use one of the round multi plug units with the retractable power cord (similar to the style that building contractors use). Much more compact to transport, eliminates the necessity to wrap and unwrap the power cord, and when in use fits neatly out of the way beneath your pacseat.

Well, I ordered the wrong size! I had searched up an old post from Keith giving the spec's on the power supply's he uses. In that post it was stated that the tip was 2.5mmx5.5mm. That's why I ordered that size. Apparently, as Keith stated above, I need the 2.1mmx5.5mm size tip for newer pedals after Jan. 2008. Maybe 2.5mm was the size used on older pedals, with attached power supply maybe?

Anyway, a 2.1mmx5.5mm is on order. We'll do this again... Oh Well

The 2.1mmx 5.5mm extension cable works perfectly...
