Been looking online but haven't found what I'm looking for. I need .012 & .014 stainless in bulk. Thanks to anyone that can direct me! _________________ Setup; MSA S12, POD XT, Hilton, Peavey Session 500, Mackie SM450's |

I havent seen anything in plain (non-wound) stainless. Smallest gauge is .018 in stainless wound.
Probably too brittle for plain string tensions.
Ask Curt Mangan, Im sure he has the answer.

Yeah, plain strings aren't stainless. They're plain steel _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Paul, how many do you want but, as others have said, plain strings are just steel, neither stainless or nickle, I can supply the gauges you ask about. _________________ Ray Thomas

Try Sid Hudson @ Live Steel Strings. they have Stainless and nickel. ph. 804-452-2019. I think I saw a few days that they would be closed for vacation this week? Good luck, Larry
p.s. I use their strings and they are great. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

The 'stainless' moniker comes from the metal in the wound string wrap. 0.012 and 0.014 strings are just plain steel strings. I've had good luck with these - http://www.juststrings.com/plainsteelguitarbulkstrings.html - $2.90/dozen comes to $0.24/string. I have never seen plain strings made out of stainless steel. I suggest also getting some 0.013, 0.015, 0.017, and 0.020 if you're using a standard PSG set, I assume the 0.12 is for your high G#? I keep tons of plain strings on hand so I have no qualms about just changing them anytime I please.
Probably best to get some other strings while you're at it - the $6.95 shipping/handling per order will sting you otherwise. But they have good prices on lots of different strings, and have a wide selection of pedal and non-pedal guitar strings. |

I use Juststrings for strings that won't be pulled....I don't know what you are doing with those, but, e.g., my .014 E string gets pulled to F# and breaks if I use ordinary strings....I go for Cobra Coil or Livesteel for that one... _________________ https://www.lostsailorspdx.com

I use Juststrings SIT Stainless PSST-12 and don't have problems breaking strings but I change them pretty often.
I was recently given 3 sets of cobra coils with a steel I bought and just put a set on.
The C.C.s looked very shiny and polished but seemed to have a tremendous bar drag when new and the 36 had a considerable difference in tension.
I will see if I can tell any difference this week end. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

When I change whole sets, I typically use GHS stainless, and I agree that I do get some more life out of the reinforced 0.011 and 0.017 strings if I want to try to extend the change interval. But I've had no problem with rapid breakage on even those bulk plain strings - except for .011 and .017, I rarely break them even if I leave them on for a while. For me, any string that gets constantly stretched and released will tend to break sooner than later, and the stretched plain strings also start to sound off pretty quickly, to my ears. It doesn't take long to change just the plains, so I tend to change them very frequently, which is why I like the cheap bulk plains. |
