For Steel and Guitar I use the Line 6 Pod X3 or HD. I have the desktop version (bean) and made a very sturdy holder out of a drummers quick clamp and the line 6 pod mount.
I use their floorboard connected via ethernet cable. The volume works great and you don't have to run extra cable down there.
There are two inputs so you can plug the steel in the Mic input (I use a direct box converter) and your guitar into the normal input. What is nice is you can select which input you want for each patch. No AB box needed.
Also everything is right there for editing, no bending over to adjust delays or turning around for volume or tone controls.
You can use the amp models or put it into preamp mode so you basically have Bass/Mid/Treble/Presence/Volume.
If you use two amps you can have the left out got to one amp and the right side go to another. There is a tone 1/2 button that let's me switch between guitar/Pedal Steel.
And the bottom line is it sounds great!
Has USB out for recording as well. _________________ PRP Mullen SD-10, Fender 4x10 Deville, Telecaster and Stratocaster |

I've got an X3, it took me ages to understand it, until I realised that the main knob (which I thought was the programme bank change) was in fact used to scroll through the programme bank after it had been selected by a nondescript knob hidden with 3 other knobs.
Doh
I've eventually found my sound, after many months of trying different parameters ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I'm using an X3 model. Live, I only use it for effects (e.g. my main program is digital delay and spring reverb). But, I have a "recording" tone that I have set up with a preamp that I use direct to my recording interface unit (a Roland Octa-Capture) for recording.
I had considered upgrading to the HD model, but since I only use the amp modeling for recording I decided it wasn't worth it. Maybe the next "new improved" model will make me upgrade. |

I use the rack mount version of the pod pro and the pod xt. I have multiple settings for both steel, lap steel, telecaster, and archtop guitars. If you take the time to try all the speaker cab options and clean amp settings there is a wealth of great sounds available. Like many others, I put my back on the shelf and went back to the old standby Peavey Profex for 2 years before I knuckled down and learned how to use the pod properly. Most of my amps now get used as a powered cab only. |
