For the first time since beginning this Contest, I wish I weren't making the decisions. I'm late posting this quarter's winner because it's just been too hard to single out one stylist. That's the whole point, to me, of the real "magic" of the steel guitar. Once you learn how to make it make music, what then develops is your "voice". I've been listening to some very nice "voices" over these past months, and I want anyone interested to know that the one thing that this little Contest has done is further convince me that the instrument is amazingly complex and special...and so are all of the people who "get it" and venture to play it well. I've become a fan of every single one of you!

The 4th Quarter Winner is :

JERRY FLEMING

from Virginia; playing, "I Miss You Already".

Congratulations, Jerry!

So, here are the four Finalists from which the Grand Prize Winner will be selected on August 15:

1st Quarter: Jeremy Drawbaugh
2nd Quarter: Connie Burton
3rd Quarter: Mark Wayne
4th Quarter: Jerry Fleming

Thanks to everyone who entered and helped make this "Event" fun and exciting for everybody. Please come by our booth in St. Louis and give me a "hint" about the song you submitted and help me put a face to the music I've really enjoyed.

I'll be back one more time on August 15 to announce the WINNER who will perform with me on Russ' set at the International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis this September.

Congratulations to you Jerry, my friend, a great player, and one of my favorite people. I know you will do all of us proud and represent our state of Virginia well. By the way, good thing it wasn't a beauty contest.

This was really fun to see it develop and it will be great to see and hear Laney and Russ in St. Louis along with the great finalist that will be chosen.

Glad you thought of this wonderful idea and hope you have other great ideas in store. I am sure you do.

Wow what a surprise. I have been in Tuscon all week and just read this.

I am truly humbled beyond words. I write this with tears in my eyes. Thank you for the kind words and well wishes, I sincerely appreciate them.

Best of luck to everyone, I look forward to meeting you all!

The way I see it is "if you own a bar and picks" you are family!

God Bless,

Jerry

Early yesterday morning, I had an unfortunate encounter with a very angry yellow jacket who was without question on a definite Mission! I'm just wondering who among you might be "unhappy" enough with me now to have put out that Contract...normally, I'd have been sure it was Russ, but, with the Contest and all, well, I'm just a little concerned.
Anyway, you've got to know that if I could, I'd have you ALL playing on Russ' set in St. Louis! Hmmmmmmmmm...well, "that" statement's going to get me in some more trouble for sure.
