that was fantastic, Greg! while I thought everything sounded crystal, I was particularly taken with the sound of the acoustic guitar. what are you using to get that sound? ET is one of my favorites, oh man. |

The accoustic was recorded using a cheapo condenser mic placed at about 6" from the 12th fret where most of the boominess goes away and the sound becomes a bit more tinny, much like it sounds to your ear at the player's position. The strings are about 2 years old but I don't play it except for backing tracks like this. It's a Washburn WD-10S that used to sell for $150. I had bought a couple $500 Washburns that were much fancier but did not have the bright tone of this one. So I sold them and bought the low end 10S back from my son. The 10S seems to be the sweet spot for the Washburns in terms of bright tone and thin resonant top.

Thanks for the links! I've gotten some good sounds off of some less expensive gear, as well. I have one Electro Voice condenser that isn't going anywhere, and an old no name Ribbon mic that just pulls a room in like no body's business. My Teisco Spectrum, well, it is what it is |
