I thought it would be interesting to see pics of the bands you played with in this time period...its always fun to the see the steels, the guitars, the amps and even the clothing from that time period. Here is my contribution...I didnt play with this band, but the steel player was my guitar and steel guitar teacher and I eventually taught guitar at his studio. (my band in the 60s was rock and roll)
this picture is about 1964 or 65

Thank you made me think.
I lived in Wichita and did call Doug for a Clean Rug - Steam-matic - actually talked to Doug when I called and when the guy finished he said that this had never happened but Doug said - "free one for an old friend from Ponca"
You said Fireglos and that in it's self brought back lots of memories.

A good friend of mine here in Az that I jam with a lot played in a country band in California in the 70s called George Steele and the Steelers....Bobby told me that George Steele was his stage name, not his real name. I guess he passed away a few years ago and I am quite sure there are members of this forum who knew him. Anyway, here is another picture of bands from the 70s this time...cool, instruments, amps and outfits !! I would love to see more of these...I thought this would be an interesting thread, but so far, I guess Joe and I are the only ones who think so
My friend Bobby Woods is playing the lead guitar on his 1953 Epiphone (which he still has and plays !!) and George Steele is on steel !! I dont know the other players but Bobby could tell me I am sure. |

This is not really a band per say, just a group of students I used to play with a few years ago. But the pictures are a bit on the vintage side.
My guitar in my private music studio!
A small group that I once played in.
The guitar as it sits in my living room today. |

Larry, if I remember right we were playing as a small group about 57, 58 through about 61. I did not however make the steel guitar a career, sadly about 61 it was slid under the bed until about 73 where I played in a small group in Iceland for a while when I was in the Navy. The guitar then went back in to the closet until about five years ago when I decided to try the pedal steel. I'm not sure if I will ever learn to play well, but I'm still trying. I have a newer style stand for it now which works a lot better. Some of my friends still play the guitar at my place on jam nights, it happens to be the only single item that I have owned my whole life.

Come on guys...post some pictures of you and a band playing in this time period. I dont have any to share cause I wasnt playing steel then, but I know alot of you guys were...whether with local groups or on the road with big names. Almost every "older" musician I meet, I ask them if they have a scrapbook of groups that they have played with and many of them have and are glad to share them with me. I just love to look at the equipment, steels, guitars, amps from that time period. Any more input on this ? Please |
