For sale is a D6 console built by Mel Crews. It has two 24" scale six string necks—the rear neck is tuned to open E (EBEG#BE) and the front neck is tuned to open G (GBDGBD). It has two brand new sets of strings.
1. The keyheads are really nice, were machined from stainless steel and have Grover tuners.
2. The nuts are stainless steel barrel-style and precision slotted for string gauges 58-46-34-22-18-14 on the rear neck (E), and 56-46-36-26-18-16 (G) on the front neck.
3. The pickups are both Bill Lawrence L500 blade-style humbuckers—they sound excellent and warm, especially doing volume pedal swells.
4. The guitar has tone and volume controls, fed by two Fender 500k pots, and a three-way, on-off-on switch.
5. The bridges are a machined wrap-around style.
6. The legs are stainless steel with rubber feet and are TELESCOPING—which makes this great for someone who wants to sit and play, or for a guitarist who wants to walk up to the guitar and play standing. There is also a nice leg pouch for the legs.
7. The leg sockets are also machined and very well made.
8. The sides are birdseye maple and have a beautiful figure.
9. Extra-study hardshell case included.
I bought this guitar a few years ago and used it at a hand full of gigs. It’s spent the rest of its days living in the case. At this point I’m liquidating all the instruments that I don’t use. The hardware on this alone is worth about $350. Price is $375 plus $50 for shipping.
This is a well-built guitar, but not a perfectly built guitar. But it sounds and plays great, stays in tune, and is a great guitar of the workhorse variety. It has been used and has an assortment of small cosmetic dings etc. The most outstanding points I tried to photograph: two small screw holes below the front neck saddle, a smallish chip in the wood in front of the left-most control, and some rough spots along the side of the rear neck.
PM me if you'd like more photos.
