I think I saw a post about his last single neck 10 string that mentioned his wider than normal pedal steel string spacing. Anyone know about this?

I don't know about Tom's guitar specifically, but in general, the string spacing on a pedal steel guitar is a bit close for non-pedal playing. It makes for difficult bar slants, especially on adjacent strings. I have a 10-string Epiphone Eharp and the string spacing is quite a bit wider than my pedal steel and very comfortable to play.
