I finally made it to a Junior Brown show last night.
all I can say is- If you ever get the chance- don't miss him!
It was a great show- to me, Junior Brown is one of the most entertaining musicians out there right now.
Great humor
Chops of DAYS!!!
I was really impressed by his volume pedal technique, both on steel and guitar...and he wasn't as loud as I thought he would be...but I was still wearing earplugs.
His band, as sparse as it is - IS A MACHINE!
These guys are so rock solid-providing Junior with such a solid place to play over...that drummer HAS to be android...
Opening was a young guy from the northwest- I didn't catch his name...he had some pretty good songs and on pedal steel was our very own Larry Tracy on a SWEET Sho Bud! (Hi Larry)
Here's some pics:
First up- Larry-
All in all, an exception night out with the wife to see some great music!
And I was home before midnight!!!

Thanks Jay. That was a fun show. I agree with you about JR's rhythm section. They were great. Drummer has been with him for 4 years and the bass player for about 8 years. Took JR. awhile to get dialed in. Venues are suppling the back line for him and he didn't do sound check. But once he settled in away he went. Good to see Tanya Ray touring him again. |

Kudos to Junior for keeping it so simple and playing so hot. If only more drummers could get the "less is more" concept of the simple snare and hi-hat setup. John Jorgensen used to have a great drummer backing his gypsy jazz group. He just used brushes on a snare drum but what a groove! |

He was here in town a couple weeks ago. I left highly impressed with his musical ability. |
