This Console Grande was among the latest of the Consoles made by Gibson, designed with the newest features of the time.
4 position tone switch for each pickup - chimes, treble, normal, bass
3-position pickup / neck selector switch
"du-wah" (black) & audio "cut-off" (red) tone controls
The "du-wah" & cut-off buttons, I believe, were Gibson's attempt to help players simulate the very popular playing technique of Speedy West. "Little" Roy Wiggens is shown playing this model in A.R. Duchessor's Gibson book - see pages 113 and 120.
This particular guitar is in immaculate condition. There are no sign of scratches, dents, rust or pitting. On a scale of 1 to 10, this one has to be 9 - at least. It is near original throughout - the exception being the addition of a threaded mike mount: This holds a "mini-boom or "gooseneck" to firmly hold a microphone - in case the player wants to sing along.
This Console Grande comes with its original case. All latches work fine - even has the latch key. Included are the four original legs that firmly screw on the bottom.
Asking $1,200, with free delivery to your door (CONUS) Any questions and / or more pictures, please e-mail. Thanks.........Wes

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again... I think these are some of the coolest and most under-appreciated console steels out there. In the right working order, the range of tones is pretty extraordinary. They somehow don't have the collectible reputation of the older 'plank' style CGs but what a sound! To my ears, at least, they're one of the best sounding - and most versatile - guitars out there. (When I say versatile, by the way, I don't mean that it sounds like a lot of other guitars. It doesn't. It's its own thing sonically but with a lot of available variations.)
Truth in advertizing, I know a few people who've owned these and didn't care for the sound - just not their taste. But then not everyone likes the Stringmaster sound either... |

Thanks Chris for your kind words regarding the tone of this model of the Console Grande. As you say, it's quite unique the way the player has this variety of choices in regard to the tone.....Wes |

Could you put up a youtube video of it's sonic qualities? Or, some sort of "demo?"
I suspect folks might not put the price-point and it's value, together. Just a thought.
I for one, should be out selling blood right now. I'd love to own it. Sweet guitar!

Rick, I would be glad to if I could, but I have no idea how to go about doing that. All I can say that, in my opinion, it has a super tone that would compare favorably with any pickup that's made today.
I've had a few e-mails regarding the "threaded mike-stand". For some reason, my best photo showing this wouldn't load on the Forum site. This photo will send by way of an attachment, however. Let me know and I'd be glad to send it along by e-mail. Thanks.....Wes |
