Hey y'all,
I'm headed down to Nashville the week of March 2nd to do some recording with a band I'm working with. While I'm there, I'd love to check out some of the steel players in town, both as an audience member and a student - if I can pick up a few nuggets of knowledge from a great player, that would be awesome! Any recommendations?

Check the latest newsletter from Vic Lawson from Nashville Steel Guitar, he does an excellent job outlining who plays when and where--the best guide to steel playing in Nashville. (P.S. you generally can't go wrong at Roberts, The Wheel and Legends on Lower Broadway)

I was in Nashville about a month ago to drop off an Emmons for Mike Cass to rebuild. I also arranged to have a lesson with Mike Sweeney the next day. It was well worth it.

Mike is a great player and a great teacher. Highly recommended.

See Vic Lawson at The Wheel on Broadway with Gary Gibson Band on Saturday and Sunday from 6PM to 10PM. This past Sat & Sun we saw Pete Finney, Tommy Hanum, Vic Lawson & Eddie Dunlap. Spent MOnday morning hanging out with Buck Reid, then Monday night had front row seats to see Paul Franklin & Vince Gill with The Time Jumpers. Not sure, but someone said Doug Jernigan does a regular Monday night gig somewhere. Roam down Broadway from 4th down to 2nd on both sides & you will find what you are looking for. Enjoy.

go to buckreid.com for lesson info. Top notch player, equally good teacher, and a prince of a guy. And it will look good on your bio!

You can also catch some excellent steel at two clubs in the Music Valley area, which is across the street from Opryland. The Nashville Palace front stage features bands which play at Roberts along with the Palace house band, and the Music City Bar and Grill features the Music City Playboys with Rusty Danmyer Tues & Wed. Nice thing about these gigs is the volume level is not like Broadway and there is lots of free parking.
