My Craigslist Roland Micro Cube gets crackly distortion with lap steel chords with battery or AC adapter power. It sounds OK with recorded music. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Does it happen at all volumes? Does changing the cord between the guitar and the amp make a difference? Are you using any other effects (volume pedal, effects pedal) between the guitar and amp?

Jim, when you say 'with recorded music', do you mean when using the Aux input *without* the guitar, or do you mean when *both* are used? What guitar are you using? Does it have a volume pot, or are you using a volume pedal? Can you crank down the volume and clean up the sound?

You're not trying to play C6 PSG into that poor little thing, are you?

By recorded music I mean music into the aux jack without playing the guitar simultaneously.
I use multiple 8 string non-pedal guitars, all with volume pots, no volume or other pedals, all sound crummy into the Micro Cube. A silver face Champ with bigger transformers and a 6L6 sounds pretty good.

I am not hoping for greatness, just reasonably clean sound at low-mod volume. Is this unrealistic? If so, what small battery amp will serve?

Microcube is 3 watts of power, or is it 2?
I set mine on the blackface setting with some reverb, and keep the gain low. It sounds pretty nice for quiet at home playing. Won't keep up with a Champ though...Jerry

Used it again last night and still get this sputter/crunch distortion with three string chords, at low-moderate sound level, regardless of if the guitar volume/amp volume is high or low. It is not the speaker since I get the same sound using a different speaker.
Sounds like the discontinued Vox DA5 would be good. How about currently available amps?

Roland Cube Street is great. Pricey, though. Worth it if you can find a used one. I got mine for $130 on Craigslist.
