I'm thinking of buying just the driver. I love my Altec 418b but it's heavy. Pat Quilter says he designed his Eminence/Quilter 15" neo with the Altec in mind. They cost about $220, weigh about 6 lbs, are almost as efficient as the Altec but handle 300 watts. But I'd like to hear other opinions.

Keith I use either an Eminence SP15C or a Sica with my Quilter Rack Mount model. I like both of them, both 15" and both neo lite weight speakers. The Eminence has a little more highs and the Sica is a little more grit or grainier.
I have never tried the OEM speaker found in the Steelaire or the PRO models.
Hope this helps

Keith,
I once had a Quilter Steelaire Pro model. I decided to A/B the stock Eminence speaker with a Telonics 15" (in one of their cabs) I happened to have on hand. Right away, I noticed a more defined midrange in the Telonics speaker. I replaced the stock Quilter speaker with a spare Telonics 4 OHM I had and was much happier with it in the amp. You might want to consider researching the Telonics speakers as well. As I understand it, they are custom made by Eminence for Telonics (with the JBL sound in mind). _________________ Best regards,
