A beautiful example of a great square neck resophonic guitar. New, these sell for around $360, more or less WITHOUT the case - check with your local Guitar Center. This one is totally flawless and comes WITH a padded hard shell case. It's time to pay for my Appalachain, so I'm letting this one go for $280 plus $20 in shipping. If the shipping is more, I'll eat it. If you're just getting into square neck dobro or just need a 2nd instrument hanging around for alternate tuning, you can't get any cheaper than this for a guitar that will work very nicely on-stage! I just finished giving this Gretsch a "tune-up". I left the stock cone in place as it seemed to be doing a good job. I did, however find some manufacturing "shortcuts" which I redid. Look at the pictures below and you'll see a couple of things ... First, I cleaned up the spider. It had a lot of the waste cast material still attached (sorry for the blurriness). I filed all of that off smooth and then filed flat surfaces onto the 8 areas of the spider which contact the cone. The more flat and smooth that surface is, the more effective the sound transfer from the strings to the cone is ... a good thing. Secondly, there was some construction "goop" left on the cone seat... not good. So I cleaned the seat up and now the cone has a nice smooth and flat surface on which to rest - again, making the resonance more effective, again, a good thing. The guitar sounded good before I did this, but there was a perceptable difference after the tune up! Just a side note here... if you're playing an import reso now and haven't tuned it up (as I outlined), you're likely missing a great opportunity to improve the sound noticeably. The higher end resos like the Gold Tone Beard series and the W/S "frugalhorns" are likely not to be in need of this, but I have yet to see ANY of the other imports which wouldn't be vastly improved with just a couple hours work. If you are afraid to tackle such a job by yourself, gimme a call. I'll be happy to walk you through it! Thanks for looking at my Gretsch!
