The Florida Steel Guitar Club's April 2013 Meeting/Jam will be Wednesday, April 10th, CR470, Lake Panasoffkee, Fl. (our regular Meeting/Jam place).
The FSGC Club holds monthly Meetings/Steel Guitar Jams the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
The Jam runs from 5:30 until 8:30...
Lake Panasoffkee is exit 321 on I75, approximately 60 miles west of Orlando and about the same distance north of Tampa.
Come early and support Catfish Johnny's Restaurant before the jam.
Note:
Jack Stoner is stepping down from the top spot of the FSGC as of April 10, 2013.
I will be taking over the club management on April 11th, 2013.
Jack will still be availble to help assist me when needed.
I want to give special thanks to my friend and Co-founder of the FSGC for his leadrship over the 1st ten years of our club.
Thank you Jack.
Don Sulesky
Please be mindful of or Club Limitations, Volume Level, Time and Band Space.
Please ask if you would like to sit in with the band for a song or two.
This is not an open mic jam but we do have a guest singer(s) now and then when we don't have a full compliment of steelers.
We are very fortunate and grateful to have a very good backup band.
But, when we get more than what we usually have it can take away from the steeler's playing time.
We only have 3 hours for the jam and to maximize the steeler's picking time, too many lead instruments can get in the way.
Some steelers travel more than a 100 miles to play and we want to offer them as much time to play as time permits.
Thanks (The Management)

I have seen clubs come and go.....but this one has a lot of staying power. We have lost a few along the way but through it all it keeps on going. This is because of the players and all the great support of the audience. There were a few bumps in the road at times but as always we managed to get on track and keep the spirit alive...It's a great ride so let's keep it going.
I wish Don ongoing success with the take over of the reins from Jack. And to Jack for keeping the show going. Also to Johnny for letting us use his place for all the pickers.

I received a message from a great steel player that I had the opportunity to sit beside at the Lakeland Steel Show. His name is Doug Jones and he hails from Oregon. He will be in the area and will attend the club jam. Those that haven't heard him will be pleasantly surprised.... Can't wait! _________________ The difference between a musician and a savings bond is eventually the bond will mature and earn money. |

Fred, you are right - Doug Jones is a first-class steeler. He really had it all together for the Lakeland Show, and raised some eyebrows with his fine playing.

I'll have my NV112 this month. I need to replace the grill cloth in my Eminence EPS-15C speaker cabinet.
The NV112 hasn't been out for about a year. Needs "dusting off".
I'm taking it to Oxford tonight. |

The Sarasota crew is getting organized and Clyde is assigning seats in the van. I've got a pretty new body for my Tele this month - the paint's probably still tacky!
It'll be good to see Doug again - he's a fine picker fer sure! I think our friend Brian Ostrum from Canada will be coming up with us this month - another fine picker and nice guy (you owe me a drink, Brian!!) _________________ 2022 Brook Lyn, 2014 Martin 000-18, 2022 Ibanez GB-10, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, understanding wife of 49 years. That was a great jam and it is a great steel club.
It was particularly fun getting to sit next to Fred "the Mainiac" Thompson, aka "Mr Smooth" again.
Big congrats to Jack and Don for having kept it together for 10 years and best wishes to Don for taking over Jack's spot for future gatherings.
Lots of great guys, cool gear, tasty licks and an appreciative audience. Got to eat me some Gator for the first time in my life. Tasted like chicken ! |

Doug
It was nice to hear and see you again.
What a steel player.
I have a big "Ditto" to what Jack said.
We have a super group of guys and the audiance is second to none.
Our band does a super job every month, Tom, Clyde, Skip and Karl, plus we had Frenchy Boucher sit in for awhile as well as Andy Rizzo who plays with Jack every monday night in Oxford.
It was also nice to sit next to Brian Ostrom from Canada. He can sure make that steel talk.
It was a task to play following him. Phew.....
