Has anybody tried the Tech21 Blonde pedal with pedal steel ?
I would like to put together a small DI setup. If you can get a cleanish Fender tone out of the Blonde, I would only need to add my rev and delay pedals for a really compact rig. The Blonde has cab simulation too!

Hi Olli, I would love to listen to some audio demos of the tech 21 but the links just loop around to a dead end. I might have gotten tired of clicking links before it got to a demo but I think it got messed up some where along the way
With that being said I have heard a lot of good news about some of the tech 21 pedals but I haven't tried any of them personally. I do know it's amazing what companies have done with amp and speaker emulations in the last few years and I only expect it to get even better Good luck!

OK. The Tech 21 Blonde pedal is being tested. So far I`m very impressed.
The Blonde is not just an overdrive device but a good pre amp /cabinet simulator unit emulating the classic Fender tones. From SF Twin to BF to Tweed.
Great clean sounds from a mid scooped Twin to a fatter Boogie Studio Pre tone. I don`t really care if they`re "accurate" simulations or not, they soung good and that`s enough..
I could easily play a session with the Blonde or a live gig with good monitors. Just the Blonde and my Digiverb into the Radial J48 DI.... Worth checking out !!
Edited to add a link to two short samples. Williams U12 w. Truetone, Freeloader, Digidelay,Tech21 Blonde,Digiverb,Radial DI.
#1 a trad fender tone
#2 a bit fatter

Ok, I`ve played two live gigs and one session with the Blonde.
Even more impressed. Sounds and feels like a real amp. I ran DI`d to the pa and to my Boogie 1x12 JBL K120 cab with a Crate Powerblock built in, using just poweramp section. Both worked really, really good. Nice to know that I can now fit "my tone" in my pack-a-seat and go. I will take the Blonde along even if I use a real amp as a spare. _________________ Olli Haavisto

Hi Olli,
I have been looking for a pedal that has enough gain to drive a power amp. Most don't have enough.
If you plug your steel into a reverb pedal pedal then into the input of the Blonde, can you drive your Crate power amp/JBL speaker combo to loud stage volumes directly from the output jack of the Blonde? It seems like you can unless the DI you mentioned had gain in it or perhaps you were playing on a quiet stage.
By the way, your MP3 samples sound very nice!

After Olli's review and sound samples, I got one of these. It drives the SPLIT cabinets great! It's really quite surprising how good it sounds. My thoughts were to have a pedal to put in the suitcase for fly dates, and Europe.
It also seems to be very quiet with little to no hiss. The battery life is also suppose to be between 80 - 100 hours. |

How cool is that? Thanks Randy. That's exactly what I was wondering about. While us tweaky guys will stay with boutique preamps, it's great to know that there is a small, lightweight and good sounding alternative for fly dates and rehearsals. I am heading to my local dealer to pick one up to try out.

T.C. , I have a great custom made tube pre, an Alembic clone (only better ) and I think it`s scary how close you can get to that tone with this little pedal. Plus a whole lot of other stuff. I should post samples of how it does the cranked Tweed Dlx with a lap steel.
It`s great if you guys found my humble opinions helpful.... _________________ Olli Haavisto

Thumbs up on any Tech21 product. The SansAmp classic is on my desert island list of gear. |

I use to rep for Tech 21 and have a new British and a new California pedal that I would let go real reasonable if anyone is interested. jerico47@sbcglobal.net
I also have their analog delay and analog reverb pedals to move to someone who will use them. |

Tony,
I have two 12 string Williams Universals, one with a Truetone (the one I recorded the samples with) and one with a Lace alumitone. The Blonde works great with both of them. _________________ Olli Haavisto

Thanks Olli, I've got a BL710 on my E9 and a E66 on C6 and I sometimes wonder if amp/cab simulators work better with guitars with single coils. I'm using a Pod Pro recording direct and it does ok but, you've got me wanting to try the Tech 21. Thanks for all the info.
