First my apologies for being late to post thank you’s to all who played, supported and attended the Northern Virginia Steel Show and Jam on May 20th and 21st. The Talent was second to none, the Band was as good as it gets and I have heard nothing but positive feed back about the show. Thanks to: Mike Sweeney for a very successful Seminar and his great sets on Saturday and Sunday. To Russ Hicks for not only his great playing but his friendship and introducing Laney to the Steel Guitar community for us all to enjoy. Russ can play with the best of them. Not bad for a fellow West Virginia boy. (Russ and I were raised within 30 miles of each other, Beckley,WV) To Laney: What can I say that hasn’t been said many many times by everyone who has the pleasure of meeting you and hearing you sing. Your very smile and presence make those around you feel special and blessed. Don’t get me started on Laney. I can just hear Russ say, “that’s enough about Laney, and I can hear Laney reply,” Don’t listen to him, keep going.”
To my long time friend Buddy Charleton. What a set to end the show on Sunday. So many fans and a flawless set. When Buddy played Somewhere Over the Rainbow, we all seen the rainbow and he was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. To Clyde Bloodworth, my dear friend of about 45 years: Thanks for driving all the way from LA (Lower Alabama) you set was the best I have heard you do. You always bring something special to a steel show. To the band, Alan Coldiron on Bass, Jim Hartley on Drums, and Mark Moree on Lead Guitar, you guys are the best. You were truly the key to the success of the show. Thank you. A special thank you to Paul Vendemmia and Mike Auldridge(Dobro) for thier wonderful set Saturday and to Mile for staying all of Saturday and coming back Sunday. To Ken Latchum, a great job helping with the MC duties. To all the Players, Jim Thompson and his wife Patty who helped at the door, Wayne Hetzler and his wife Linda, Dave Van Allan, Ray Walker who I can always count on for support, Glen Lanning, Jim Hall, Joe Smith, Jerry Flemming, Rudy Gabreletto, Jim Cohen, Gary Gimble who made quite an impression especially with his rendition of “Billy In The Lowground,” Joe Sapp and Terry McCumbee, Curry Coster, Buddy Griffin Brian LeBlanc, Steve Leonard, and Casey O’Neil. Thanks to my brother Sam, Jennifer Jean, and special guest Guitarist Larry Villa and Fiddler Jim Unger.
Finally to My wife Shirley for all the help and support in all the,” what a Fine Mess You Got Us into Deals” she has had to help get me out of, thanks Hon. We are tentatively planning another show for January 07. Hope to see all or you and a lot more at that one

We had a great time as well. Thanks for the hospitality. The staff and the players were great. Sure hope we can make the next one. I could go on but I know I'll forget someone. Paul, I enjoyed your set. That's quite a collection of guitars you had there also.

I have been to a lot of steel shows and jams...but there are none quite like Chucks's Northern Virginia celebration. It's a great time and so much fun that you just don't want it to ever end. It's all because of Chuck and Shirley....great people and the very best of friends which is what I cherish the most. The show went off smoothly and timely and when you have it coordinated like that there is just non-stop steel playing and that's what we all come for. You betcha I'll be at the next one and any and all of them after that. God bless you Chuck and Shirley.....what a team. I think you two should just get married all over again
It's so great to see all the old friends and make some new ones along.

Chuck;
Thanks for allowing me to participate! It was great to reconnect with Rudy G, Jim Hall, Jay Jessup and all my old DC area steel compatriots...Gary Lee, Paul V and so many others
and to finally meet Mike S., Ray W, Terry M, Joe Sapp...
It was a great bunch of music!
I'll try to not confuse the band so much with my lame charts next time

Chuck,
Thank you for all the hard work you put into your show. It is always an honor to be invited to one of your events because they are always first class. This was as good a show as I have ever attended anywhere. I know that this show cost you a good deal of money and we all appreciate the financial sacrifice you made to put it on. I also know that you would rather that I not mention that. It was great to see so many friends from years past, especially Rudy Gabreletto(my hero). Russ and Laney were terrific as usual. Mike Sweeney is always so easy to listen to,in person, or recorded.I highly recommend his CDs. Jim Cohen really played an outstanding set. He is equally adept playing jazz, country,rock, and whatever else that comes to mind-a truly great talent. In my declining years, I never know if I will be around for the next show; but, if I am still kicking I will be there. Thanks again for the opportunity.

I wanted to thank Chuck too, it was the first show in a very long time that I attended and it was just great. With all the different steel and amp set ups, I thought Mr. Bloodworth had the most incredible sounding amp rig and still has me humming Duke Ellington tunes, Rudy C is a very fine player, Jim Cohen never fails to impress me with his choice of tunes and his touch. Everyone that played was very good and showed me the stuff that steel players are made of. I will defintiely be back for more.

Has anyone ever suggested that the SGHOF do recognition at some level for Chuck Campbell and anyone else like Chuck that puts so much into putting these shows together? I was under the weather and didn't make this one but IMO it's guys like Chuck that keep the wheels on this thing. It's always a blast just being able to say hello to old friends, much less being able to listen to the best in person.
