First I want to thank everyone who has been participating in the "Boot Camp" via Skype since I started it a couple months ago. You guys are great!
Right now I'm booking sessions for April and am hoping to top last months enrollment. My goal is to book 20 slots for the month. I know that sounds like a lot but really it isn't when there are 6 days in the week to choose from and 3 slots per day. It could be done in little over a week.
For those of you who may have missed the earlier posts about "Boot Camp" via Skype let me give you the times and days and other information so you can decide if it's something you would want to do.
The "Boot Camp" via Skype is open Monday through Saturday each week except when I have a steel show to go to. The times of the sessions are 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM till 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM. those times are CENTRAL TIME.
The cost of each two hour 1-on-1 session is $50.00 and is payable through PayPal only.
I still take 1-on-1 students here at my home if they prefer but this is a very cost effective alternative to that. If you weigh in your transportation costs, lodging, and food into the equation of attending the "Boot Camp" in person, You could take several 2 hour sessions for what one day here would cost you.
The cost of being up and ready for Skype is very low. All you need is a webcam/microphone [$20 and up at Walmart], and a Skype account is FREE!
I take on all levels of ability. Beginners to advanced. We work on the things you need and want to further your path of playing a steel guitar.
I welcome any and all questions about the "Boot Camp" and hope to hear from some of you.

Mike
I am still wanting to do a boot camp one way or another. 2 questions about the skype method: My experience with skype (usually with my daughter who lives in France), there is a lot of delay and pixilation going on – it seems this would not be very conducive for music lessons. What kind of quality do you experience in the states, Nashville to Birmingham?
2nd question – what model microphone/camera do you prefer or have found provides the best sound quality and picture (don't I need something other than the one on the laptop)?
Thanks

Fred,
So far the sound and picture quality have been fine. There have been a couple of times, during bad weather, where there was minor interference. All of my students so far seemed pleased with the quality.
As far a an external camera goes, I have been advising those who asked to check Wal-Mart. They have several different cameras in the $20.00 to $50.00 range that work just fine.
I hope this answered your questions. Looking forward to hearing from you. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |
