What an interesting challenge to play with such a whacky performer....I have never heard her various aggregations of improvisors except for one recording I have of free jazz conducted by her. The steel guitar would have wonderful application in a free jazz situation due to it's wonderful ability to play complex harmony, portamento, and all kinds of sounds beyond the obvious things that it does so....predictably. I hope you record some of the concerts! |

William,
Thanks for your reply. Caroline is a dear friend, and we have played together before a few times. She definitely has a unique (and lyrical) approach to her instrument. I don't know if any of that will be recorded, though I will be doing a solo performance on Resonance Radio in London which will , I think, be streamed over the internet. Also, there were a couple of recordings made of the trio tour I just finished with Le Quanh Nin and Sean Meehan, and the performances went very well -- for me, kind of a watershed. I hope that the recordings came out.
I hope all is well with you and that hurricane season will leave you high and dry this year.
Take care,
Susan |

Good luck to you Susan!
If you haven't heard Susan Alcorn play, you should make an effort to do so. If you can't see her live, go to her website.
You will "experience" a uniquely haunting dimension of the Steel guitar's abilities as performed by this gifted artist!
When we heard her live, It felt almost like an out-of-body experience - stiring emotions I didn't even know existed.
And, YES, I am serious!
Kudos to you, Susan!!

Susan, have you ever considered playing in Miami? Please?! If you do, I will personally spread the word and work with your publicists FOR FREE!!!! (Or, Ft. Lauderdale. They have something called The Broward Center for the Arts that would be a perfect venue for you!) |
