Brad,

I've had my BB a couple of years and wondered what the current tube choice is? I haven't had mine apart but it seems the tone has changed some.

thx

If I remember what Brad told me correctly, earlier Black Boxes used a different tube than later ones. You may have to pull the cover and either get the tube number or the serial number of your particular Black Box.

I'm certainly not speaking for Brad, but I believe he's putting 12ax7's in the newer version. I just replaced mine with a 12ax7 last week. Easy to put in.

The early versions had a 12AU7 but it's easy to remove the cover and look at the tube.

Mine was built 6/23/04 and he said it uses a 12AU7. He said it was a very early model.

He recommends the Shandong 12AX7's...(not positive about the spelling...)
