I've got a Johnson squareneck, and the tailpiece gave out on me yesterday. Sheared off right at the binding edge of the guitar, under no particular stress. I think it might have gotten damaged in transit recently, but I have no real idea.

Is there any recommendation that the hive mind can make for a replacement? Amazon has tailpieces from Recording King (under $10) and Golden Gate (under $15), among others (around $20). I'm happy to spend a few bucks extra for something that'll last a bit better, but it's not an expensive guitar, so I'm not looking for the cadillac of tailpieces, so to speak.

Any recommendations are much appreciated. Any suggestions not listed above are also welcome.

This is an issue with several entry level resos. Probably just failed due to construction.

There are several better ones out there. I don't know about imported ones, but you can find a Tut Taylor or Beard at some of these online stores.

www.resophonicoutfitters.com www.fqms.com www.jdmc.com etc. for around $25.

The import tails from Beard are steel. No way they can shear!

I was in a music store in Berkeley, CA one day, just looking around, when a tailpiece on a Johnson resonator guitar gave way. Both the store owner and I were in a different section of the store when it happened. It sounded like the guitar fell over or something.

I would recommend the Beard tailpiece as a good alternative.

Weird. Ordered a part, it was noted that the spacing was standard, and when it arrived the screwhole was a different distance from the guitar edge.

Anybody know whether there's some variation, or am I losing my mind? I can give some measurements when I get home.
