For those of you that have vertical connectors for your pedal rods. How often do yours wear out? I find myself replacing them all the time! My old axe had 90 degree connectors and I never had an issue.

Dunno. Have had an old D10 Zum since 2008 with the 180's. Looks like a couple of them had been replaced prior to my owning it, show moderate wear but no failures for me in 5 yrs. or so. No problems with the Williams either.

Do they have to be oriented a particular direction N/S or does it matter?

I have the 90 deg on my Franklin. But, Mr. Franklin told me to lubricate them occasionally and also to use a small dab of Vaseline in the cup to help prevent wear.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you I will do that.

my zum has broken 3 or 4 in 31 years of hard playing.

Just a tiny bit of white silicone grease applied to the ball with the tip of your finger and thumb works very well and stays on great.

I didn't mention lube, but it should be a given that all metal to metal connections deserve just a little love. I use the same needle oiler for just a smidge there same as the other moving parts where friction is a concern.

When I first got my used MSA S-10, I had squeak in my guitar. Found it was the B pedal ball connector. a bit of grease cured it. I am a firm believer in lube. I use Fishing Reel Silicone Grease on the Ball Connectors and the Nut Roller Shafts. I check and oil the sleeves and springs and the ball joint about every 6 months. Beware of spilled drinks, Cola Drinks contain acids that will eat steel, especially springs. Check the pedal bar anytime drinks are spilled around your steel. Good Luck and Happy Steelin.
