I had the privilege of attending the Missouri Country Music Awards show this past Sunday in Osage Beach, MO with Terry Bethel. We were entertained by Leona Williams, Ron Williams, Leon Rausch, Wren Stewart Tidwell, and Ferlin Huskey. I also had the pleasure of meeting the great Stan Hitchcock, Smokey Smith, and Bill "Goofer" Atterberry. The Hall of Fame band (Jimmy & Starla Queen, Dave Owens, Scotty Henderson, Frank Brown, Dwayne Bowman, Kelly Jones, Ernie Reed, and Bobbie Regot) were awesome.
Inducted this year were Smokey Smith, Porter Wagoner, Stan Hitchcock, Wynn Stewart, Roy Queen, and Leon Rausch. Ferlin Huskey was presented the the Legend Award.
The house was packed and the music was great. The history that was shared was immeasureable. And the talent on stage - incredible.
Thanks to the Missouri Traditional Country Music Association for putting on an outstanding show and recognizing the icons in Country Music.
I hope you all can make it next year!
Miss Lana

Lana, I concur. Great, great music and a tremendous show.
My hat's off to Scott, Dave, Jimmie, Starla, and all for working so hard to honor the inductees. I know for certain that Stan was humbled and honored to hear his music played so well.
Lana, I spoke with Terry but I missed you somehow. Please accept my apologies. Come up and kick me in the shin and say howdy next time. That's how my wife gets my attention.
I need to sit down for a minute... my shins are really sore. |

I was so busy I didn't really get a chance to talk to anyone - but thanks so much for attending. It was an honor to get to work with such legends! We were thrilled at the attendance and look forward to a bigger show next year!
The show was recorded and we hope to rebroadcast it on steelradio.com We will keep you posted........
For those who don't know - Terry Bethel is alrady a member of the Missouri Country Music Hall of Fame -he was inducted a couple of years ago!
Thanks again to everyone! Also, at the last minute some DVD's of Stan Hitchcock's Heart to Heart show was given away before the guitar and boots. Ray Campbell (Who purchased raffle tickets online from the link here on the steel guitar forum) won one of the dvd copies - Congrats, Ray!!!

Missouri's musical community’s contribution to traditional country music is historic as well as legendary. It is my understanding that the first nationally broadcast radio program with a singer singing a country song was done from a radio station in St. Louis, Missouri. It is also my understanding that the Ozark Jubilee was the first nationally broadcast television program outside of New York City or Los Angles and that it was the first nationally broadcast country music program on television. The Ozark Jubilee probably launched as many country music recording artist’s careers in the early 1950s as the Louisiana Hay Ride. Branson has dominated the live performance of country music for vacationers for nearly 40 years and attracted top country music talent from around the world. And how many of us grew up reading Lee Mace’s Opry bumper stickers on passing cars when we were kids? There is not enough available space on this website list the names of the countless singers, musicians, songwriters, producers and music industry people who have made their own everlasting mark on country music. I have said it before and I will say it again, if Dave Owens were the only contribution Missouri had ever given to country music it would only be equaled by Kansas contribution of the legendary scat jazz saxophonist Charlie Byrd.
I know that every state’s musical community has made its own contribution to country music and I appreciate them all, but being a life long Missourian I take great pride in the contribution our group of country folks have made to the genre’ as a whole.
Just a little side note: One day while at work about 8 years ago I called Leona Williams’ home to speak with her, while on the phone she sang me a song she was working on, let me tell you this, if the angels in heaven sing as good as that lady I am personally looking forward to the show when I get there. Never has anyone person ever sang in better pitch or with more emotion. Leona Williams is like Ray Price, she only gets better every time you hear her.
