Hi.
I've been on the Forum some time - not a frequent poster though.
Reason I'm posting here: I've been playing pedal steel for about 6 years, never cared for a lap steel. But I came across a near-mint condition '59 Fender Champion. Thought I'd buy it to add to my collection, just to be there when I needed it, to be handy for some occasional job.
Boy, was I in for a surprise... this thing has me hooked. I find the limitation in number of strings (only 6, as opposed to 10 en 12 on my PSG's) and the lack of string pulls/drops very challenging and highly addictive! It's great fun.
So greetings to all you non-pedal players, say hi to the new kid in town...
Tuning for now, for those interested: G# - C# - E - G# - B - C# |

To paraphrase the 1932 movie Freaks:
"We accept you! We accept you! One of us! One of us! Gooble-gobble, gooble-gobble!"

That's what hooked me too... the challenge of playing lots of stuff with a minimal setup, no pedals or levers. It's very rewarding. I too started on pedal steel and I had no interest in non-pedal for many years. Then someone gave me a lap steel and I discovered how much fun it could be. Welcome to the club!
Your tuning looks like C#m7, or some would call it E6. A nice tuning for Hawaiian songs. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

I came to steel and dobro from guitar. Six strings - no pedals. I spent hours with my pedal steel bandmate while he played riffs on PS and I attempted to copy them. Never sweated so hard in my life. Can't thank him enough! _________________ David K |
